Star Ferry - Hong Kong

Hong Kong's Star FerryVictoria Harbour is a busting place of energy and the thing that really sets Hong Kong apart from most other cities. The National Geographic Traveler named the ferry crossing as one of 50 places of a lifetime. If you are doing the ferry journey for sightseeing it is better to start the journey from the Kowloon side as it is easier to get to the Ferry Terminal from that side than the rather long trek to the Central Ferry Terminal from the Island side. The Star ferry first started to operate in 1880 but became the "Star" Ferry company in 1888 taking its name from the name of its its ferries. Due to its age much of the infrastructure is inaccessible due to steps to the upper level. The lower level of the ferries can be accessed. Tides do move in Victoria harbour and the final gangways can become a little steep at low tide. The deckhands will assist with boarding and the lower level has plenty of deck room to enjoy the excitement of Victoria Harbour.
